Smart wrist bands save almost 30% of nurses’ time

Zebra Technologies Europe has come out with a range of advanced patient-identification wrist bands based on a combination of barcode and RFID technology. The wrist bands can store patient details and prescriptions, thus providing nursing staff with accurate up-to-the-minute patient information.

Simple scanning of the wrist band reveals if the patient is due to receive medication, have a blood transfusion, or supply a sample. The previously used hand-written paper or plastic tags were easily damaged or rmoved, whereas the new ones are resistant to water and solvents.

Besides saving the nursing staff up to 30% of time spent tracking down doctors and double-checking treatment information, this solution is estimated to reduce the yearly 200,000 medical errors committed in the UK.
