Daisy Brand adopts RFID and cuts loading time by 80%
Daisy Brand's adoption of RFID technology is helping expand its customer base and increase its product range. With increased inventory visibility and the ability to self-manage their workloads, drivers at Daisy Brand have cut the time it takes to load 24 pallets on their trucks from one hour to 20 minutes.
With assistance from third-party inventory locations, Daisy sour cream products are distributed nationally to customers like Wal-Mart, Albertsons, Safeway, Kroger's, Target, and the U.S. Department of Defense. Its 50,000 sq. ft. manufacturing and distribution warehouse in Dallas is responsible for 30-40 finished goods SKUs.
Each RFID label attached to a pallet contains information about the product, including the date, expiration codes and pallet ID, as well as a bar code and shipping information. Every time a tagged pallet is read, an inventory transaction is recorded in the ERP system. Daisy shares information with WalMart through EDI-transmitted advanced shipping notifications.
Daisy’s fleet of trucks is equipped with tablet computers integrated with an RFID reader and antenna. The driver thus receives information about where to put a load, and the transaction is recorded along with lot number, expiration date, and the move from finished goods to shipping. Because the products are perishable, tracking expiration dates is critical.
